De Vrij swaps Inter for Panathinaikos, reuniting with Vilhena

🇳🇱
Stefan de Vrij, the 34‑year‑old Dutch centre‑back, has terminated his eight‑year spell at Internazionale to sign a one‑season contract with Greek giants Panathinaikos. The move follows his forced absence from the World Cup in the United States, Canada and Mexico because of injury. De Vrij is a 79‑cap international for the Netherlands. He spent eight years at Internazionale, where he collected three Serie A titles, three Coppa Italia trophies and three Supercoppa Italiana wins. Known as “De Muur”, he previously spent four seasons with Lazio. At Inter he recorded 296 appearances and scored 13 goals. At Panathinaikos he will be reunited with former Feyenoord teammate Tonny Vilhena. De Vrij and Vilhena shared two seasons together at Feyenoord. Panathinaikos are the twenty‑time champions of Greece. De Vrij’s arrival adds experience to a squad preparing for the upcoming Greek Super League campaign.
