Verbeek hints at Arne Slot as Dutch coach candidate

🇳🇱

Gertjan Verbeek spoke on NPO Radio 1's "Dit is de Dag" about the vacancy left by Ronald Koeman. He said, "It would not surprise me if Arne Slot is approached," suggesting the KNVB may consider the clubless Dutch coach.

Arne Slot, who guided Liverpool to the English league title in 2025, is currently without a club after his summer exit from The Reds. His recent dismissal leaves him available for a national team role.

Verbeek added that clubs still hold Slot in high regard and that he could already be in discussions with the KNVB. He noted, "He has no club yet and it's not for nothing that he might be waiting before signing with a club."

Former Dutch international Hedwiges Maduro described Slot as a "realistic" option for the Netherlands job. Maduro urged, "You have to at least call him and make an attempt."

Maduro also expressed admiration for Pep Guardiola, recalling that Guardiola once said he would like to coach the Dutch side. He said, "I also like Guardiola a bit. He once said he would like to coach the Dutch team."

With Koeman's departure already announced, the KNVB faces pressure to appoint a successor promptly. The emerging interest in Slot highlights the uncertainty and strategic considerations shaping the next chapter of Dutch football.
