Transfer boost for Liverpool as Roma’s FFP hint revives Kone chase

🇬🇧 By 4All Football Editorial ·

Liverpool have gained a Transfer Boost in their chase for 25‑year‑old French midfielder Manu Kone after a Roma Financial Fair Play hint indicated the Italian club may need to sell, reviving a Deal that stalled when Kone departed Borussia Monchengladbach for Roma in 2024.

If Curtis Jones moves on and interest from Inter Milan intensifies, Liverpool will need more than a body in the middle of the park. The club requires a midfielder who can carry the ball, win duels and keep the game moving when it gets scruffy.

Manu Kone, the 25‑year‑old French midfielder, has rebuilt his momentum in Italy after leaving Borussia Monchengladbach for Roma in 2024, first on loan and then permanently in 2025. He added bite, control and composure, qualities that shone during the World Cup with France, and his athletic, tactically aware style suits high‑tempo matches, allowing him to defend large spaces while still pushing forward.

Roma’s Financial Fair Play situation could open the door for Liverpool, as head coach Gian Piero Gasperini hinted that the club may need to balance its books. He said, “Will he stay? I think these Financial Fair Play conditions vary from team to team; they’re not precise,” adding that reaching the Champions League would help but balance sheets remain crucial.

Richard Hughes stressed that Liverpool do not need a flashy midfield rebuild but the right pieces, and Kone fits that profile. If Jones stays, the equation changes, but if he departs, reviving the long‑standing pursuit could become a smart summer move.

The window may finally be open for Liverpool to act, though a suitable offer must satisfy Roma’s financial constraints and the Merseyside side’s budget. Further clarity is expected in the coming weeks. Photo: IMAGO.
