Sunderland pursue Serie A defender Tarik Muharemovic
Sunderland are in the race to sign Sassuolo and Bosnia defender Tarik Muharemovic this summer. Alfredo Pedulla reported that the Black Cats are among the clubs pursuing the 23-year-old centre-back. The Wearside side face competition from Bournemouth in the chase for the Bosnian international.
Muharemovic completed 33 appearances for Sassuolo last season, contributing two goals and two assists across all competitions. His consistent displays have placed him among Serie A’s most promising centre-backs, prompting interest from English clubs.
Regis Le Bris’s side could benefit from adding defensive steel to their backline with the Bosnian’s arrival. Standing at 1.92 metres, Muharemovic combines strong aerial ability with solid ball-clearing skills.
He excels at progressing play from the defensive third and reads opposition threats effectively. His physical profile and technical attributes make him a compelling option for a Premier League side seeking defensive reinforcement.
The defender’s current contract at Sassuolo runs until summer 2031, complicating any potential move this window. Sunderland would need to agree a fee with the Italian club to secure his services before the transfer deadline.
Le Bris faces a strategic decision: prioritise Muharemovic or explore alternative defensive targets. At 23, Muharemovic remains in the prime years of his development and could command a regular starting role at the Stadium of Light.
