Injury clouds Roma’s preseason as Vaz faces weeks out

🇮🇹 By 4All Football Editorial ·

An injury to Robinio Vaz turned Roma’s first pre‑season session at Trigoria into a setback on July 13, as the 2007‑born French striker suffered a collateral ligament tear to his knee, ruling him out for several weeks and casting doubt over the Giallorossi’s early plans.

Roma entered pre‑season with optimism after securing the Frenchman Robinio Vaz from Marseille in the January window, but the club’s inaugural training day at Trigoria turned sour when the striker went down with the knee injury.

The collateral ligament damage was confirmed during that first Trigoria session, marking the first injury reported at the facility and highlighting a rocky start to the season.

Filippo Biafora publicly confirmed that the knee injury will keep Vaz out for a few weeks, with rehabilitation expected to follow the usual timetable for such ligament issues.

Consequently, Vaz will miss the initial home friendlies scheduled for early August, although he could be fit in time for the friendly against Cardiff on August 1.

Gian Piero Gasperini has indicated a preference for more experienced forwards and is eyeing Nicolò Tresoldi of Club Brugge as a potential replacement for Malen, underscoring the uncertainty surrounding Vaz’s long‑term role in the capital.

Despite the setback, the Frenchman could still serve as a third striker and earn occasional appearances, as the Giallorossi will compete in three competitions this season, offering opportunities for squad rotation.

How quickly the striker recovers and whether Gasperini secures Tresoldi will shape the club’s early campaign trajectory, with the preseason agenda now hinging on his rehabilitation and possible new signing.
