PSV’s €13m swoop on Sven Mijnans fuels Champions League push
PSV has confirmed the signing of 26‑year‑old attacking midfielder Sven Mijnans from AZ, with a transfer fee reported at €13 million. The Dutch international inks a contract until the summer of 2031 and will wear number 21 for the Eindhoven‑based champions in the Dutch Eredivisie.
Vandaag, technical director Earnest Stewart praised the acquisition, saying PSV have followed Mijnans for years and value his versatility, goal‑scoring and assist record. Stewart added that the midfielder’s strong character and work ethic fit the club’s playing style and ambitions.
Mijnans explained that the move feels like “a perfect next step” in his career, using the Dutch word Dit to describe his excitement. He highlighted PSV’s clear vision, strong leadership and the chance to compete for the Champions League, a competition he has dreamed of since childhood.

The midfielder also noted his attraction to the number 21 shirt, citing former wearers Paulo Dybala and Paul Pogba as inspirations. Ajax showed interest, but Mijnans chose PSV because of the club’s consistent push for a fourth consecutive league title. Since mid‑2023, Mijnans has been at AZ, after the club signed him from Sparta Rotterdam. In Alkmaar he grew into a captain, tallying 155 official matches, 42 goals and 26 assists, and lifting the KNVB Beker in May. His arrival adds depth to PSV’s midfield and gives him the platform to chase European success, while the club gains a proven creator for its title‑chasing project.
