PSV mourns the sudden loss of devoted fan and actor Cees Geel
PSV announced on Tuesday, 14 July, that actor and lifelong PSV-fan Cees Geel died suddenly at the age of 61 after a heart attack, prompting an immediate response from the club and its supporters.
Born in the Noord-Hollandse town of Schagen, Geel cultivated a strong bond with the Eindhovenaren over several decades, recalling in interviews that his devotion began in the 1980s.
The Eindhovens Dagblad quoted Geel saying, “He enjoyed the spectacle that PSV offered and thought it wonderful that the club attracted so many big names,” reflecting his deep admiration for the team.
PSV’s official channels posted a statement: “With sadness we have taken note of the death of Cees Geel. Besides his successful acting career he was a fervent supporter. We wish his family, friends and everyone who loved him much strength with this loss.”
During his acting career Geel won a Gouden Kalf, the prestigious Dutch film award, underscoring his prominence beyond football.
Even after achieving fame, Geel continued to follow the Eindhovenaren, travelling to away matches abroad whenever possible, as noted by the Eindhovens Dagblad.
