Neymar mocks predictor after Brazil’s comeback win
Brazil secured a Round of 16 spot in the 2026 FIFA World Cup on Monday (29) by overturning a deficit to beat Japan 2-1, with the comeback sealed by a late second goal; the star Neymar, who was gradually returning but did not take the field, used the win to mock German economist Joachim Klement on X.
Brazil fell behind early before rallying to force a 2-1 win. Gabriel Martinelli and Casemiro each set records during the match. The victory also ended a 24-year drought of Round of 16 appearances for the five‑time champions.
Neymar, who is gradually returning to full fitness, did not feature on the pitch. He later posted on X: “Mr. Joachim Klement… please try again at the next World Cup 😉” to mock the economist’s forecast.
German economist Joachim Klement had previously “called” the winners of the last three World Cups – Germany in 2014, France in 2018 and Argentina in 2022. For the 2026 tournament he predicts the Netherlands will claim their first title.
Klement’s prediction will be tested later on Monday (29) when the Netherlands face Morocco at 10 p.m. Brasília time. A win would see the Dutch move into the Round of 16 to meet Canada on Saturday (4).
Knockout stage: Brazil vs Japan, Germany vs Paraguay, and Netherlands vs Morocco.
Brazil’s progression secures their place among the last 16 teams and restores confidence after a long absence. The comeback also highlights the squad’s depth as they prepare for the next knockout round.
