Mourinho’s blueprint: Bellingham’s World Cup spark at Real Madrid

Jose Mourinho has announced that he wants Jude Bellingham’s World Cup form to be the cornerstone of Real Madrid’s attack next season, after the England midfielder recorded four goals and an assist at the tournament. The Portuguese coach envisions Bellingham operating as an attacking midfielder behind the striker.

Carlo Ancelotti first placed Bellingham in an advanced role after his arrival at Real Madrid, a decision that proved hugely successful during the 2023/24 season. The England international became one of the decisive players and contributed significantly to the club’s success.

At the World Cup, Bellingham returned to his preferred attacking midfield role, combining creativity with a notable goal threat by scoring four goals, including a brace against Mexico in the Round of 16, and adding an assist. His performances reinforced Mourinho’s belief that he is most effective when playing closer to the forwards.

Mourinho’s tactical plan for Real Madrid involves positioning Bellingham behind Kylian Mbappe as part of a trio of attacking midfielders ahead of a double pivot. In this system, Bellingham would support the striker while arriving from deep to create and finish chances.
