Martin Adeline’s €6m switch from Troyes to Hamburg nears completion
Martin Adeline’s phone buzzed with confirmation as the 22-year-old attacking midfielder prepares to leave ESTAC Troyes after securing promotion to Ligue 1.
The transfer to Germany’s Hamburger SV is imminent, according to a report, with both clubs at an advanced stage in negotiations. Adeline’s departure deprives Troyes of a key creative force ahead of their Ligue 1 return.
His 2023-24 contribution was decisive: 36 appearances across all competitions yielded 11 goals and 11 assists, making him one of Ligue 2’s standout performers. Troyes’ promotion owed much to his creativity and goal threat.
The deal is expected to be completed for a reported €6 million. Troyes, owned by the City Football Group, will receive the fee as part of their financial planning following a season of investment.
Adeline’s exit follows Mathys Detourbet, another attacking talent who joined Manchester City—also owned by the City Football Group—before being loaned to AS Monaco. The parallel moves underline Troyes’ role as a feeder club within the Group’s structure.
For Hamburg, the signing represents a shrewd move. The Bundesliga side, chasing top-flight return, will add a player with proven Ligue 2 experience and a track record of creativity.
The urgency reflects modern transfer dynamics. With Adeline’s contract expiring next summer, both clubs moved quickly to secure a deal balancing financial and competitive interests.
For Adeline, the move offers a new challenge. His development will be closely monitored as he steps up from Ligue 2 to the Bundesliga—a league of higher intensity and quality.
The transfer is expected to be finalised in the coming days, pending medicals and contract details. Troyes will lose one of their brightest talents, while Hamburg gain a player set to make an immediate impact in their promotion push.
