Glasner picks Forest over Europe, vows authenticity amid turnover

🇬🇧 By 4All Football Editorial ·

Oliver Glasner, the new Nottingham Forest boss, addressed the media for the first time since his appointment earlier this month, contrasting the flurry of interest from clubs across Europe with his decision to stay in the Premier League and replace Elliot Anderson. He highlighted his Austrian background and the club’s ambition, setting the tone for his tenure.

Glasner revealed that after leaving Crystal Palace he was contacted by many clubs across Europe, yet he chose to remain in the Premier League because he believes "a new book to be written" at Nottingham Forest. This decision underscores his commitment despite the allure of other opportunities.

He explained that great talks with owner Evangelos Marinakis were decisive, noting a dinner in Athens where they discussed the club’s vision and ambition. The Austrian praised the owner’s ambition, describing Marinakis as "one of the few people more ambitious" than himself.

Glasner praised the squad’s talent after a detailed look, saying the players impressed him and that the club’s seventh‑place net‑spend ranking since promotion four years ago demonstrates the owner’s ambition. He stressed the importance of mutual honesty to build trust within the organisation.

Addressing the record‑breaking four permanent managers appointed in a single season, Glasner said the average managerial tenure is already below one year, so the turnover does not worry him. He added he never signs a contract fearing dismissal, focusing instead on delivering success.

On football philosophy, Glasner said every manager claims to want attacking football, but he will first get to know the players before deciding on a back three or four. He emphasized that he will support every Forest player, refusing to name them as former Crystal Palace targets.

He singled out Omari Hutchinson for his dribbling and left‑foot finishes, calling him a player with great potential. Long‑term absentees Callum Hudson‑Odoi, Murillo and Nicolo Savona have shown determination in training, while Morgan Gibbs‑White and Ryan Yates are identified as squad leaders.

Regarding Elliot Anderson’s departure, Glasner admitted the club cannot afford a like‑for‑like replacement but has already identified a midfielder to sign, promising to announce the deal once completed. He concluded by pledging to be authentic and always honest with supporters, hoping these values will foster a good relationship.
