Feyenoord faces German and Scottish suitors for Tjark Ernst

🇩🇪

Feyenoord’s attempt to sign 23‑year‑old goalkeeper Tjark Ernst is now being matched by Borussia Mönchengladbach and Celtic, as all three clubs are prepared to meet the €5 million release clause that would free the Hertha BSC keeper. Ernst, with 97 senior appearances for Hertha, is also linked with the German side as they seek a replacement for Moritz Nicolas.

The release clause is set at €5 million, which both Feyenoord and Celtic are ready to activate. Ernst’s current contract with Hertha runs until the middle of 2027, leaving the club with several years of control.

Ernst did not feature in a recent friendly for the 2. Bundesliga side, a move that was interpreted as a sign of an imminent transfer. Coach Stefal Leitl clarified that the omission was pre‑planned and confirmed Ernst will be back on the pitch on Wednesday.

Borussia Mönchengladbach, currently facing the departure of Moritz Nicolas, view Ernst as an ideal successor between the posts. The German club’s pursuit adds a further layer to the competition for the keeper’s signature.

Ernst is regarded as one of the most promising goalkeepers in Germany. Hertha BSC continues negotiations to extend his contract, with Leitl stating that talks are ongoing and the outcome remains uncertain.

In his 97 official matches for Hertha, Ernst conceded 140 goals. He kept 24 clean sheets during that period.
