Fabrizio Romano: Italiaanse Lazio set sights on free‑agent Doekhi
Twenty‑eight‑year‑old Nederlandse centre‑back Danilho Doekhi is now a free agent after his Union Berlin contract expired on 1 July, and Serie A‑club Lazio have moved quickly to fill a defensive vacancy. Transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano reported that the Biancocelesti are keen to secure the player before the summer window closes.
Doekhi left the Duitse side Union Berlin, where he amassed 137 appearances, as a free‑transfer following the expiry of his deal. The Dutch defender had originally joined Union after a free‑transfer from Vitesse.
Lazio, the club from Italië, have opened talks with the 28‑year‑old. According to reports, it is not the first occasion the club has been linked with Doekhi.
Before his stint in Germany, Doekhi was under contract with Vitesse, Excelsior and Ajax. He featured in 35 matches for Jong Ajax, while his senior appearances for Excelsior and Ajax remained limited to one and zero respectively.
Transfermarkt still assigns Doekhi a market value of €13 million despite his free‑agent status. Volgens the same source, his experience could be valuable for a Serie A side seeking depth.
It remains unclear whether Doekhi is willing to move to Italy or if formal negotiations have begun. Should the parties reach an agreement, Lazio could complete the signing before the registration deadline.
