Derksen backs Weghorst over Brobbey for Morocco clash
Johan Derksen argues that Wout Weghorst, not Brian Brobbey, should start as the Netherlands' striker against Morocco, citing the North African side's compact defence and the need for a forward comfortable in tight spaces. Derksen believes the Dutch attack will benefit from Weghorst's aerial ability and physical presence.
Derksen says, "Weet je wat ik een probleem vind? Marokko speelt met een gesloten verdediging, dus moet je spelen in een kleine ruimte. Daar is Brobbey totaal ongeschikt voor." He adds that the Dutch forward lacks the attributes needed to break down a tightly packed backline.
He continues, "Door de lucht zijn ze te kloppen, want ze wonnen geen kopduels tegen Brazilië en dat zijn ook geen koppers. Weghorst kunnen we nog weleens heel hard nodig hebben." Derksen stresses that Weghorst's strength in aerial duels could be decisive against a team that struggled against Brazil.
Dutch fans breathe relief as Koeman quits after World Cup exit
Brobbey has been influential in recent fixtures, scoring three goals across the matches versus Sweden and Tunisia, which earned him a place in the starting eleven. His contributions have been highlighted as a key factor in the Netherlands' attacking options. Ronald Koeman has four strikers to choose from, each offering a different profile. He began the World Cup campaign with Donyell Malen up front before swapping him for Brobbey, while Memphis Depay and Weghorst remain in the squad.Koeman quits after early World Cup exit, cites disappointment
Koeman still holds the flexibility to select the most suitable striker for the Morocco encounter, meaning the final decision will be made as the team prepares for the next match.
