Chelsea Gabriel Slonina eyes Strasbourg trial as Filip Jorgensen looms

🇫🇷 By 4All Football Editorial ·

Chelsea goalkeeper Gabriel Slonina (22) could join RC Strasbourg Alsace this summer after a trial in France, a report by L’Équipe says, while fellow Chelsea youngster Filip Jorgensen (24) is also being linked with a move to the Alsace club.

L’Équipe understands the USMNT goalkeeper is already in France to undergo a trial that could last several weeks, allowing the club to assess his abilities before committing to a deal. The trial will focus on his footwork, a key attribute in modern goalkeeping.

Mike Penders has returned to Chelsea after a successful loan spell in Alsace, leaving Le Racing in need of a new No.1 between the posts. The French side are actively searching for a replacement to inherit the jersey.

RCSA will evaluate Slonina’s footwork closely, especially after Hugo Oliveira stated that in his system goalkeepers function as an 11th outfield player. Such scrutiny reflects the club’s tactical emphasis on goalkeeper involvement in build‑up play.

Should he pass the assessment, Slonina – who previously spent time on loan at Eupen and at Barnsley – could join RC Strasbourg on either a permanent contract or a further loan arrangement. Both options would keep him within the European game while providing Chelsea an exit route.

If Slonina fails to convince, there is also the possibility of Filip Jorgensen arriving at the Meinau stadium this summer, as Chelsea are pushing him towards the exit door as well. Like Slonina, Jorgensen would be expected to compete for the No.1 spot at Strasbourg.

The dual interest underscores Chelsea’s broader strategy of moving young goalkeepers abroad to gain experience, while RC Strasbourg looks to reinforce its squad ahead of the new campaign. Luke Entwistle reported that the club’s scouting network is keen on securing a reliable No.1.
