Celtic Maik Nawroski set for Lens as defender surplus to requirements

🇬🇧 By 4All Football Editorial ·

Celtic Maik Nawroski, the 25‑year‑old Polish defender who has managed only 18 appearances and one goal for the Glasgow side, appears surplus to requirements as the Bhoys look to reshape their back line. Reports from Foot Mercato indicate he is set to join French club RC Lens.

Nawroski remains tied to Celtic until May 2028, meaning the club could command a transfer fee for any departure before that date. His contract runs for four more seasons, underscoring the club's long‑term planning.

Since last summer, the defender has been on loan at German side Hannover 96. He featured in 18 matches, starting 17, and contributed three goals and three assists.

Celtic originally secured Nawroski from Polish giants Legia Warsaw for €5 million in the summer of 2023. The transfer marked a significant investment in a young centre‑back.

The Bremen-born defender progressed through the youth system of Werder Bremen before moving abroad.

His time in Scotland has been limited, with only 18 appearances and a single goal for the Bhoys. The lack of regular playing time has prompted speculation about his future.

At RC Lens, Nawroski would become the fifth summer signing, joining Saud Abdulhamid, Thorgan Hazard, Michaël Cuisance and Michał Skóraś. Lens has been active in the transfer market, reinforcing multiple positions.

Should the move materialise, Nawroski would add depth to Lens’s defensive options for the upcoming season.
