Bournemouth set on €20m target for Lecce defender Tiago Gabriel

🇬🇧

On the transfer market, AFC Bournemouth have learned that US Lecce will consider selling 21‑year‑old centre‑back Tiago Gabriel only for an offer close to €20 million (£17.3 million). The valuation gives the English club a clear price point as it seeks defensive reinforcement.

Lecce’s stance on the fee narrows Bournemouth’s pursuit, confirming that an offer around €20 million would be required. The club has monitored Gabriel since January, with repeated scouting trips confirming his suitability.

Gabriel arrived at Lecce from C.F. Estrela da Amadora in January 2025 for roughly €1.25 million (£1.08 million). The modest fee reflects his status as a promising young defender at the time of the move.

During his first full Serie A season, Gabriel featured in 39 matches across all competitions, including 37 league outings, and scored twice. His contributions helped Lecce retain their top‑flight status.

AFC Bournemouth’s interest is guided by sporting director Tiago Pinto, whose experience in the Italian market has identified Gabriel before his price escalates. Pinto’s knowledge is seen as a decisive factor in timing the acquisition.

Lecce’s transfer model focuses on acquiring emerging talent, providing a Serie A platform, and selling at a premium when the moment is right. Gabriel appears to be the next player fitting that blueprint.

Other clubs are also watching the defender; Benfica are reshaping their back line, Juventus have been mentioned, and AC Milan’s expected pursuit of Mario Gila could lessen competition for Bournemouth. These dynamics illustrate the chain‑reaction nature of the market.

With the price now explicit, AFC Bournemouth must decide whether Gabriel’s €17.3 million tag matches their defensive needs and long‑term plan. The club’s next move will determine if the young centre‑back joins the Premier League.
