Bizarre haircut sparks buzz as future Arsenal winger scores on debut
In the bustling Estadio Casa Blanca, a young winger with a patchy haircut celebrated as his team led 3-0. Future Arsenal prospect Edwin Quintero marked his senior debut for Independiente del Valle with a goal, confirming his status as a future Arsenal player.
Edwin and his twin brother Holger Quintero have pledged to join Arsenal when they turn 18 in August 2027. For now, both remain with IDV in Ecuador.
Edwin entered the match as a substitute and, after a pass to Hugo Quintana, received the ball back inside the box. He beat a defender with a ball roll and fired home his first senior goal.
The unusual haircut drew attention, especially since he had a full head of hair when he signed for Arsenal in December. TalkSPORT explained that a South American ritual of shaving a youngster’s head is meant to humble academy graduates for their first‑team debut.
Unlike Edwin, Holger has yet to make his senior debut but featured in the IDV squad that secured a Copa Ecuador win over Deportivo Santo Domingo. He also collected the Player of the Tournament award at the Liam Brady Cup held at Hale End in May.
Fans anticipate the brothers’ arrival in north London, where Arsenal will integrate them into the first team. Images of Edwin’s debut were shared on Instagram by the player, Arsenal.com and IDV.formatives.
