Belgium refuses to drop FIFA case over Balogun despite World Cup win

Despite securing victory and a place in the World Cup quarter-finals, the Royal Belgian Football Association (URBSFA) has reiterated its commitment to pursuing legal action against FIFA regarding the Folarin Balogun red-card dispute. The URBSFA confirmed in a statement that it will not abandon its challenge to FIFA’s disciplinary regulations, even after Belgium’s progress in the tournament. "The URBSFA continues its commitment to revising the current FIFA regulations and their application," the statement read. The federation praised the Red Devils’ on-field performance but stressed that its legal pursuit remains separate from sporting results. "The Royal Belgian Football Association is proud of how the Red Devils reacted on the pitch yesterday," it noted. Beyond the pitch, the URBSFA vowed to continue monitoring the case with FIFA, arguing that international football must adhere to principles of legal security, transparency, fairness and fair play. "Clear procedures, respect for defence rights and consistent application of regulations are essential to maintain trust among member federations, coaches, players and supporters," it stated.
