Barcelona’s double signing: Tenerife duo to boost Barça Atletic
Barcelona have completed a double signing, bringing 18‑year‑old winger Jony Hernandez and 22‑year‑old midfielder Juan Ybarra from Tenerife to Barça Atletic ahead of the new campaign, with Hernandez’s deal reportedly worth around €500,000 plus performance bonuses. The agreement also gives Tenerife a 25% future‑sale clause.
President Joan Laporta shares a great working relationship with Tenerife’s biggest shareholder Rayco Garcia, which helped the two operations to be carried out swiftly.
Hernandez, 18, is a left‑footed winger praised for his technical ability, creativity and versatility, able to operate on either flank, which Barcelona believe matches their footballing philosophy.
The deal could also involve movement in the opposite direction, with some Barça Atletic players potentially heading to Tenerife.
Ybarra, 22, arrived from Rayo Vallecano last summer and quickly became an important figure at Tenerife, featuring in 32 of the club’s first 33 league matches before a muscle injury sidelined him at the end of the campaign.
In those 32 league appearances, Ybarra scored 13 goals and provided four assists.
The signings underline Barcelona’s continued strategy of investing in young Spanish talent, aiming to develop players within the Barça Atletic system.
The contrast between the swift negotiation and the emphasis on youth development highlights Barcelona’s intent to blend immediate squad depth with long‑term profit potential.
