Ankle alarm: Deschmaps eases Mbappé worries after Morocco win
France’s 2–0 victory over Morocco secured their place in the Euro semifinals, but the win was marred when Kylian Mbappé limped off in the 77th minute with an ankle problem, prompting boss Deschmaps to intervene. The French side now looks set to recover ahead of the next round.
In the first half France dominated possession and created several chances, building a comfortable lead that made a semifinal place look certain. Their control set the tone for the eventual 2‑0 win.
The key moment arrived in the second half when Mbappé limped off at the 77th minute. TV cameras later showed him on the bench with his ankle bandaged.
Online rumours quickly suggested a serious injury, but early assessments indicated the problem was not severe. The French camp therefore remained optimistic about his recovery.
France coach Didier Deschamps said after the final whistle, “He felt slight pain in his ankle, but that is normal when the matches come thick and fast. It’s nothing serious.”
Kylian Mbappé reassured supporters, stating, “I’m fine, I knocked my ankle, but everything is okay. At that point, Mateta was in better shape than I was to play out the rest of the match.”
The 27‑year‑old striker is expected to return for the semifinal, with France’s opponent – Spain or Belgium – to be confirmed on Friday evening at 9 p.m. The French team will therefore prepare for either challenge.
