Ajax's two-week experiment ends as Zinchenko says goodbye
Oleksandr Zinchenko, the 29‑year‑old Ukrainian international, has ended his brief two‑week spell with Ajax after a severe knee injury forced him out, with the club confirming his departure on Tuesday. The termination follows his second appearance on 14 February, when the injury occurred, and his Instagram farewell thanking supporters.
Zinchenko wrote on Instagram: "I want to thank everyone at Ajax enormously for the warm welcome and the support I have received during my unfortunately far too short period of two weeks at the club. From the bottom of my heart I wish everyone inside and around the club all the best." The post was made as he said goodbye to the Amsterdam supporters.
The Ukrainian midfielder previously featured for PSV, Arsenal and Manchester City before being signed by Ajax in January. Ajax secured his services to strengthen the squad for the Eredivisie campaign.
During his second appearance for Ajax on 14 February, Zinchenko suffered a heavy knee injury. The incident sidelined him for the remainder of his short tenure.
He did not feature in any further matches after the injury. Consequently, his playing time for Ajax remained limited to those two weeks.
Ajax announced on Tuesday that it was saying farewell to Zinchenko. The club also waved off goalkeeper Vitezslav Jaros and defender Takehiro Tomiyasu as part of the same departure.
