After seven months, Stef Wils returns to coaching with Besnik Hasi at Amedspor

The Antwerp dressing room’s lights dimmed for Stef Wils seven months ago.

Now, the 43-year-old Kempenaar stands in a new corridor, one leading to the Turkish Süper Lig. Wils will serve as assistant to Besnik Hasi at Amedspor, the club that secured promotion to the country’s top flight this season. The move was announced by Wils himself on social media, ending a period of reflection after his dismissal as head coach at Antwerp.

Wils’ last spell in charge at Antwerp lasted until mid-March, when the club decided to part ways. His departure left a 43-year-old with over two decades of coaching experience searching for his next step.

At Amedspor, Hasi has built a technical staff that now includes Wils, who brings league experience from Belgium’s top division. The club’s promotion adds urgency to the project, with the Süper Lig’s intensity demanding immediate adaptation.

Social media became the platform where Wils chose to share the news, marking a public moment in a career that has spanned multiple clubs and roles. His post confirmed the appointment without delay, signalling readiness for the challenge ahead.

For Amedspor, the arrival of Wils and Hasi represents continuity after promotion, aiming to consolidate their place in the elite tier. The club’s ambitions now align with experienced hands guiding the transition from second division to top-flight football.

Wils’ move underscores the mobility of coaches across European leagues, especially after a setback. His decision to join Hasi’s project reflects confidence in rebuilding a career path in a competitive environment.
