€10.5m fee signals Lyon’s aggressive summer rebuild

🇫🇷

A €10.5m fee, with an additional €3m in bonuses, has secured Denmark youth international Mads Bidstrup for Olympique Lyonnais, who announced his five‑year contract on a free transfer from Red Bull Salzburg. The Dane arrives after starting 34 of 36 matches this season, contributing one assist.

Bidstrup was an undisputed starter for Thomas Letsch’s side, featuring in 34 of the 36 league and cup games across all competitions. His consistent performances earned him a reputation as a reliable midfield option for the French club.

Lyon, set to compete in the preliminary rounds of the UEFA Champions League, have begun reinforcing their squad as the transfer window opens. The club confirmed the arrival of winger Kail Boudache, who joins on a free transfer from OGC Nice.

Boudache’s signing adds depth to Lyon’s attacking options, while Bidstrup’s €10.5m deal, supplemented by €3m in performance bonuses, reflects the club’s willingness to invest in young talent. The midfielder’s contract runs for five years, signalling a long‑term plan.

Further incomings are expected at the Groupama Stadium, with reports linking Borussia Dortmund winger Julien Duranville to a €5.5m transfer. Duranville is poised to replace Afonso Moreira, who has departed for Bayer Leverkusen.

Moreira’s exit from the German club was confirmed after his move to Bayer Leverkusen, opening a slot in Lyon’s wing positions. The anticipated arrival of Duranville aims to fill that vacancy.

Lyon’s activity underscores a broader trend of Ligue 1 clubs investing in promising players ahead of European competition. The early signings suggest a strategic push to bolster the squad before the Champions League qualifiers.
