Why the KNVB may overlook Peter Bosz after Koeman's exit
In the early‑morning studio of De 's Kick‑off podcast, journalist Valentijn Driessen warned that Peter Bosz is unlikely to become the next Netherlands national team coach. The warning comes as the KNVB searches for a successor after Ronald Koeman's resignation.
Ronald Koeman announced on Tuesday evening that, following the Netherlands' elimination at the World Cup, he will leave the Oranje post and will not extend his expiring contract. His departure opens a vacancy that technical director Nigel de Jong must fill.
Nigel de Jong, the KNVB's technical director, is now tasked with identifying a replacement. Driessen finds it odd that no approach was made to Bosz, who extended his contract with PSV in early February.

"Peter Bosz was free and governing is looking ahead. I think he would have been a fine national coach. He is a flagship of the Dutch football school," Driessen said on the podcast. He added, "Yesterday we were beaten by the Dutch football school of Morocco. That's the worst thing that can happen, being beaten by your own means, where you yourself have become big." Colleague Jeroen Kapteijns noted that Bosz deliberately waited for the national team. "The negotiations with PSV lasted ten months.. He later said it was on his mind that he would like to be national coach again. But there was never contact with him. It never became serious," he explained.Van der Vaart urges KNVB to pick a Dutch‑style coach after Koeman exit
Driessen called the lack of contact a "huge missed opportunity" and questioned whether the KNVB could pull Bosz away from Eindhoven. "Then PSV would not be worth a cut for the nose. If you spend ten months negotiating a two‑year contract, I can't imagine that," he argued. Mike Verweij countered that a strong alternative like Arne Slot might make room for Bosz, saying, "If you have a very good alternative like Arne Slot available and Bosz can be rolled out the red carpet to Zeist, then I think you are worth a cut for the nose." Driessen concluded, "I think the KNVB just doesn't see Bosz. Otherwise you would have drawn a line in January and said: we don't know how Koeman goes, but you are a candidate."
