Real Madrid's new arrivals clash over scarce first‑team numbers

🇬🇧

Real Madrid’s influx of four new signings – Bernardo Silva, Ibrahima Konaté, Denzel Dumfries and Marc Cucurella – has triggered a scramble for the limited first‑team shirt numbers left vacant after the departures of David Alaba and Daniel Carvajal as the club prepares for the upcoming season.

Denzel Dumfries, the club’s new right‑back, has set his sights on the vacant number 2. The number was worn by Daniel Carvajal, who left as a free agent, and traditionally belongs to a right‑back.

David Alaba’s departure leaves the number 4 open. Dean Huijsen, currently wearing 24, is pushing to claim the former defender’s number.

If Huijsen moves to 4, his current 24 becomes available for Marc Cucurella. Cucurella, who wore number 22 at Chelsea, cannot take that shirt because Antonio Rudiger already occupies it at Real Madrid.

Bernardo Silva has expressed a preference for the number 20. That shirt is currently assigned to Fran Garcia, who is reportedly linked with a move away from the club.

Ibrahima Konaté’s situation is straightforward: he will take the free number 19 after Dani Ceballos’ exit. His choice aligns with the vacancy created by Ceballos’ departure.

The administration now faces the task of reallocating these numbers with minimal disruption before the new season begins.
