Preston break club record to land Spurs midfielder Devine
Preston North End have signed Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Alfie Devine for a club-record fee on a five-year contract.
The Championship club described the fee as undisclosed but confirmed it is "almost three times" the amount they paid for Portsmouth forward Callum Lang in February, which was reported to be around £2m.
Devine, 21, arrives at Deepdale having scored eight goals in 45 league appearances on loan with the Lilywhites last season.
He progressed through Wigan Athletic's academy before joining Spurs in August 2020 and holds the club's record as their youngest-ever goalscorer after finding the net in the FA Cup victory at non-league Marine in January 2021, aged 16 years and 163 days.
Devine told the club website: "From the end of last season going into the summer, it was always a priority in terms of where I wanted to be. It took its time, but I'm delighted it's gone through."
He added: "From the first minute I came here until my last minute of last season, I absolutely loved it."
The move was finalised in July 2026, according to the club's latest update.
Preston have secured Devine's services as they push for promotion from the Championship, with the midfielder set to play a central role in their push for a top-six finish.
The club's record-breaking outlay underscores their ambition under current management, with Devine's arrival marking a significant statement of intent for the 2026-27 campaign.
