Lommel’s £15m midfielder coup: Nypan joins from Man City

🇬🇧 By 4AllFootball Editorial ·

In the quiet corridors of Limburg football, a statement echoed this week. Lommel SK have pulled off a coup that reverberates beyond the province’s borders.

The club has secured the services of Sverre Nypan on a one-year loan from Manchester City, a move designed to inject fresh creativity and quality into the Jupiler Pro League side. The Norwegian’s arrival comes at a pivotal moment for the Limburg club, fresh from promotion and now tasked with proving themselves at a higher level.

Nypan’s journey to Lommel is framed by his ties to the City Football Group. Yet his move is far from a mere formality. The 20-year-old is no ordinary academy prospect; he made his first-team debut for Rosenborg at just 15, immediately announcing himself as a talent to watch in Norway.

His rise was rapid. Nypan became a regular in Rosenborg’s starting XI, amassing 70 official appearances. In those matches, he contributed 14 goals and 11 assists, numbers that underlined his potential and drew the attention of Europe’s elite.

That potential crystallised in 2025 with a £15 million transfer to Manchester City. The Premier League giants secured his services until mid-2030, though Transfermarkt still values him at £13 million. His development continued in England, first on loan at Middlesbrough in the Championship, then integrating into Manchester City’s Elite Development Squad and training with Pep Guardiola’s first team.

For Lommel, Nypan represents more than a loan signing. His versatility allows him to operate in multiple positions across midfield and attack, offering tactical flexibility the club will need in the Jupiler Pro League.

Sportief directeur Jeffrey van As described him on the club website as “a young, creative midfielder” and a “major asset” for the team. Nypan, for his part, spoke of feeling immediately at home in Limburg and seeing Lommel as the ideal platform to further his development.

The timing is significant. With promotion secured, Lommel’s squad must now adapt quickly to the demands of Belgium’s top flight. Nypan’s experience—even in development roles—positions him as a key figure in that transition.

For the Limburg faithful, the arrival of a player once valued at £15 million is more than a statement of intent. It is a signal that ambition is alive and well in Lommel.
