World Cup

EFL hopes fade as Norway and Switzerland exit World Cup

🇬🇧 By 4AllFootball Editorial ·
[Getty Images] The final four remaining English Football League players saw their World Cup hopes end at the quarter‑final stage. Watford goalkeeper Egil Selvik, 28, and defenders David Moller Wolfe of Wolves and Sondre Langas of Derby County bowed out when Norway lost 2‑1 to England after extra time in Miami on Saturday. David Moller Wolfe, 24, was substituted after 90 minutes of the quarter‑final. He had started five of Norway’s six matches at the tournament, contributing throughout the campaign. The Norwegians' hopes rested heavily on his defensive contributions. Egil Selvik and 25‑year‑old Sondre Langas were unused substitutes throughout the knockout phase. Their only appearance came in the group‑stage 4‑1 defeat by France. Burnley forward Zeki Amdouni could not keep Switzerland alive, entering as an 86th‑minute substitute and playing extra time in their 3‑1 loss to Argentina in Kansas City. The 25‑year‑old made four substitute appearances in the competition but failed to score. With these four players eliminated, no English Football League member remains in the World Cup, ending the league’s involvement at the quarter‑final level.
