Aurele Amenda's Frankfurt future hinges on Coventry opportunity

🇬🇧

Swiss centre‑back Aurele Amenda may depart Eintracht Frankfurt for Coventry City this summer, after a season in which he logged 24 Bundesliga and five Champions League appearances but struggled for regular minutes. He also featured in Switzerland’s World Cup squad without playing, highlighting his quest for consistent first‑team action.

Amenda was part of Switzerland’s World Cup squad but did not take the field, as Manuel Akanji and Nico Elvedi formed the established centre‑back pairing. The lack of tournament minutes underscored his limited role at the international level.

German football analyst Constantin Eckner said, “There is a sense that his time at Frankfurt might come to a close.” Eckner noted that Amenda had contemplated a January move after receiving less playing time than promised last summer.

At Eintracht Frankfurt, Amenda has largely been a backup, despite his athleticism and high work ethic. Former Frankfurt staff have reportedly valued his extra effort after training sessions.

He did see increased minutes under Albert Riera, who coached Frankfurt during the second half of the season. Nevertheless, Eckner believes a new challenge is now appropriate for the 22‑year‑old.

A starting role at Coventry City would give Amenda a fresh start and regular first‑team action. Regular minutes could accelerate his development and unlock further potential.

Amenda’s next steps remain uncertain, with a possible move to England offering the platform he seeks. Negotiations and a suitable transfer agreement would be the final hurdles before any relocation.
