Lleida CF faces disappearance after investor detained

Lleida CF's future looks uncertain after the investor who had pledged to pay the club's debts was detained, leaving the club at risk of disappearing by early June.

The club has been in bankruptcy proceedings for a year and recently suffered relegation to the Liga Elit, compounding its financial difficulties.

Deputy president Marc Torres said a few weeks earlier that a French investor with a British passport had committed to covering almost two million euros owed to the tax authority and social security.

That announcement was received with joy by the club’s supporters, who had endured a difficult day‑to‑day management situation.

On Thursday, Torres disclosed that the supposed investor was arrested the previous night at his professional office by the Mossos d'Esquadra.

The Mossos acted on a search and capture order from the Barcelona Provincial Court. The order led to the investor’s detention at his office.

With the promised funds now in doubt, the club faces the prospect of being unable to meet its obligations and potentially ceasing operations before June.

Lleida CF will need to seek alternative financing or legal solutions to avoid dissolution.
