Liverpool’s Salah-shaped void drives £86m chase for Diomande
Liverpool face a Mohamed Salah‑shaped void in attack and have responded by launching an £86 million bid for 19‑year‑old forward Yan Diomande, who is currently representing Ivory Coast at the World Cup. The club’s pursuit of the RB Leipzig striker has quickly become a summer narrative.
Liverpool’s first offer was turned down, yet the English side continues to press for a deal. The club’s strategy reflects a need to replace the creative output traditionally supplied by Mohamed Salah.
The 19‑year‑old Diomande, hailed as one of Europe’s hottest prospects, is currently at the World Cup with Ivory Coast. His profile adds a youthful edge to Liverpool’s long‑term planning.
Former Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp, now Red Bull’s global head of soccer, discussed Leipzig’s transfer outlook in an interview. He said: “We are not the pinnacle, there is always someone bigger. We played a great season, but it is not unlikely that five players leave for clubs like… Liverpool! I bought lots of players from Leipzig in the past.”
Liverpool have previously tapped the Red Bull network, signing Dominik Szoboszlai and Ibrahima Konate, while Takumi Minamino and Sadio Mane also developed through the project. Diomande could become the next Red Bull product to join Anfield.
Leipzig are reportedly holding out for a £116 million fee for Diomande, and Liverpool appear prepared to meet a figure close to that amount. Paris Saint‑Germain also covet the teenager, though they seem to prioritize a move for AS Monaco forward Maghnes Akliouche.
