FC Twente's pursuit of Volendam keeper van Oevelen intensifies

FC Twente have opened negotiations with 22‑year‑old FC Volendam goalkeeper Kayne van Oevelen, with technical director Erik ten Hag confirming a meeting, while the Dutch keeper remains under contract with Volendam until mid‑2028 as clubs abroad also monitor his progress.

Transfer journalist Mounir Boualin reported that van Oevelen is on FC Twente's radar, and that foreign clubs have also expressed interest in the goalkeeper. His performances have attracted attention beyond the Dutch league.

Erik ten Hag, FC Twente's technical director, said he has already spoken with the 22‑year‑old keeper. Ten Hag also indicated that he is considering other goalkeeping options, including Lars Unnerstall, who has been the regular starter for the Tukkers in recent seasons.

Van Oevelen featured in 32 Eredivisie matches last season, but FC Volendam were relegated after the play‑offs. The goalkeeper previously signalled his desire to move on from the club.

Kayne van Oevelen said in an interview: "Ik denk dat het geen geheim meer is dat ik een stap wil maken. Het is volop bezig, maar goed: nu nog de juiste uitkiezen". He emphasized that the decision is being handled carefully.

On Saturday FC Twente confirmed the signing of Dutch international striker Wout Weghorst, who has also signed a contract until mid‑2028 in Enschede. The club also saw Mats Rots depart for TSG Hoffenheim, while retaining the targeted midfielder Ruud Nijstad.

The latest #DoneDeal roundup also highlighted moves involving Ajax, Feyenoord and Ricardo Pepi, underscoring a busy transfer period. Twente's activity fits into a broader pattern of Dutch clubs reshaping squads ahead of the next season.
