Barcelona finalize second summer signing with midfielder

FC Barcelona have agreed terms with midfielder Oriol Romeu from Southampton FC. The deal is expected to be finalized within 48 hours.

Romeu, 32, joins from Premier League side Southampton FC. Barcelona will pay a transfer fee reported at €9m.

The midfielder completed 2,789 minutes in the Premier League last season. He made 36 appearances across all competitions for Southampton FC in 2023-24.

Barcelona’s sporting director Deco confirmed the club’s intent to strengthen the squad before the transfer window closes on August 1.

Romeu reunites with former teammate Frenkie de Jong at Barcelona. De Jong played alongside Romeu during their time at Ajax.
