Atlético Madrid eyes Sporting's Hjulmand after Silva slip
Atlético Madrid have placed Danish midfielder Morten Hjulmand on their transfer list, after their attempt to secure Bernardo Silva fell through. The club, led by Diego Simeone, is prepared to submit an official offer for the 27‑year‑old soon.
Simeone is reportedly charmed by Hjulmand’s performances for Sporting Portugal. Atlético aims to add two midfield reinforcements this summer. The club also hoped Bernardo Silva would sign a new contract.
The 27‑year‑old Danish international was a regular in Sporting’s lineup this season. He featured in 45 matches, scoring three times and providing six assists.
Hjulmand’s contract runs until mid‑2028, securing his services for several years. Transfermarkt values him at €45 million.
He joined Sporting from Italian side Lecce in the summer of 2023 for nearly €20 million. To date he has accumulated 141 appearances for the Portuguese club.
Sporting finished second in the league last campaign, while Porto claimed the title. The club’s strong season underlines Hjulmand’s contribution.
