Vertrek at AZ: Maxim Dekker eyes fresh start in Dutch league
Maxim Dekker, the 22‑year‑old defender, has been given permission to leave AZ this summer, and he confirmed to NH that he is seeking more playing time elsewhere. Er is interest from both domestic and foreign clubs, making his departure a realistic prospect.
The 22‑year‑old defender wants regular minutes and will start looking for a new club, Dekker said on camera for NH. He emphasized that more game time is essential for his development.
"It is just a new adventure and a new path. Disappointment? Yes, maybe you’d prefer it differently, but I am ready for the new adventure," Dekker told NH. He described the move as a fresh start rather than a setback.
He holds no grievance against the Alkmaarse club, stating, "I focus on myself and on what I can improve in my game." Hij adds, "Blaming things is pointless; it’s about looking forward and concentrating on what you can influence."
Dekker rose through the AZ youth academy and featured in the first‑team squad, yet he never secured a regular starting place. He admitted finding it difficult to explain why he did not take that final step, noting he feels he has played too little in the first eleven over the past two years.
De voorkeur gaat uit naar de Nederlandse competitie, but he acknowledged interest from both inside and abroad. He said the next move will depend on where the best plan lies for his career.
