Twente's Europa League push faces Weghorst's ultra‑short holiday

🇳🇱

FC Twente is gearing up for a Europa League qualifying match while striker Wout Weghorst is already on a brief holiday after the Dutch national team’s World Cup disappointment. The contrast between the club’s competitive preparations and the forward’s short break sets the tone for the coming weeks.

Weghorst returned to the Netherlands on Thursday morning, landing after Oranje’s shattered World Cup campaign. His vacation therefore began only after the national team’s early exit.

The striker’s time off will be brief, as Twente faces Ferencvaros or Vojvodina on Thursday 21 July in the Europa League first qualifying round. Club officials intend for Weghorst to be match‑ready for that fixture.

Because of the tight schedule, his holiday is limited to just over a week. He will miss the pre‑season training camp in Tegelen next week but will join the squad thereafter.

Weghorst is also slated to appear on Twente’s open day on Sunday, giving fans a first glimpse of the new forward. The appearance will occur before his integration into full training.

Goalkeeper Remko Pasveer, aged 42, was already on the training pitch on Friday. He was formally presented to the club on Thursday, confirming his role in the squad.

The juxtaposition of Weghorst’s swift return and Twente’s imminent European test underscores how quickly the club must integrate its new striker. How quickly he adapts could influence Twente’s chances in the qualifying round.
