Strasbourg's youth push: why 17‑year‑old Brantlind matters
RC Strasbourg Alsace announced on Saturday the signing of 17‑year‑old Swedish forward Benjamin Brantlind from IFK Göteborg, paying €1 million plus €0.8 million in bonuses and securing a five‑year contract until 2031.
Strasbourg is reinforcing its attacking options as part of a youth‑focused overhaul. The club aims to add depth after recent acquisitions and a potential departure of senior forwards.
Brantlind, who will turn eighteen on 15 August, has agreed to a five‑season deal that runs to 2031. The transfer fee of €1 million, with an additional €0.8 million in performance bonuses, reflects the Alsatian side’s investment in his potential.
The Swedish forward became a professional in June 2024. He has already earned four caps for Sweden’s Under‑19 team, scoring five goals.
Brantlind broke into IFK Göteborg’s first‑team squad last September and has featured in 12 matches across all competitions this season. He started four times and netted the winner in a victory over Örgryte in May.
His arrival follows the signings of 20‑year‑old Portuguese midfielder Diogo Sousa and 20‑year‑old Polish goalkeeper Milosz Piekutowski. Together, the three youngsters form Strasbourg’s third summer additions to the squad.
Union Santa Fe forward Mateo Del Blanco, 22, is also expected to join RC Strasbourg Alsace shortly. The club will complete its summer recruitment with the addition of the Argentine attacker.
