Roma’s Celik deal done: Gasperini’s core plan takes shape

🇮🇹

Roma have finalised Zeki Celik’s contract renewal, marking the first in a series of expiring deals under head coach Gian Piero Gasperini. The Giallorossi have not sold any players since settling with UEFA, and the announcement of Celik’s new agreement is expected within hours.

Gasperini made retaining the Champions League-qualifying squad a priority, and Celik’s versatility played a decisive role in the decision. The 1997-born full-back can operate on either flank, though Roma may still pursue a specialist right-back or revert Wesley Fofana to his natural left-back position.

Filippo Biafora reported that the club reached an agreement with Celik weeks ago, confirming the deal’s completion before the public announcement. The player’s entourage initially sought around €4 million, but the final terms were reportedly lower, with the Growth Decree assisting the club in closing the deal.

Details of the contract’s length and financial specifics remain undisclosed. Celik, a Turkish international, will remain at Roma under the new terms, reinforcing Gasperini’s core group ahead of the new season.

Paulo Dybala’s renewal is next on the agenda, as the club continues to address its expiring contracts.
