PSV seal five-year deal for AZ midfielder Sven Mijnans

🇳🇱
Sven Mijnans will join PSV Eindhoven on a five‑year contract that runs until the summer of 2031, with the Dutch club agreeing to pay a transfer fee of fourteen million euros. The move was confirmed by transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano on Sunday evening. PSV moved quickly despite interest from Ajax Amsterdam and foreign suitors Como and Juventus, who were also reported to be concrete in the market for the AZ midfielder. The club’s ambition to secure Mijnans reflects a desire to strengthen the squad ahead of the new season. At AZ Alkmaar, Mijnans serves as reserve captain and still has two years remaining on his existing contract. He is scheduled to undergo a medical examination in Eindhoven on Monday before finalising the transfer. Following the substantial sale of Ismael Saibari, Mijnans becomes PSV’s first major acquisition of the summer window. The signing signals the club’s intent to build on recent successes. If PSV and AZ meet in the Johan Cruijff Schaal on 2 August, Mijnans will line up wearing the champion’s shirt rather than the cup‑winner’s. The fixture will therefore be his first competitive appearance for the Philips Stadion side. The deal gives PSV a versatile midfielder to add depth, while AZ loses a key player despite the remaining contract term. Both clubs will now adjust their plans for the upcoming campaign.
