Lyon's €5m gamble on Belgian prodigy Julien Duranville

🇫🇷

Julien Duranville joins Lyon Olympique Lyonnais from Borussia Dortmund on a five‑year contract worth €5 million, with up to €3.5 million in bonuses and a 20 % future sell‑on clause. The 20‑year‑old Belgian winger signs until 2031, marking a major recruitment move for the French club.

The transfer fee is €5 million.

Bonuses could raise the total to €8.5 million, and the agreement includes a 20 % share of any future capital gains.

The agreement runs for five years, securing Duranville’s services at Lyon until the summer of 2031.

A product of the RSC Anderlecht academy, Duranville is a Belgian winger born in Uccle.

His early career was hampered by physical problems that limited his breakthrough at Borussia Dortmund.

He managed only 27 first‑team appearances for Dortmund, contributing one goal and one assist.

Duranville made his Champions League debut with Dortmund and has earned two senior caps for Belgium.

During the second half of the 2025‑26 season, he was loaned to FC Basel, starting 11 of 17 matches and scoring two goals with one assist.

Léo Aschi reported the signing, confirming the details of the deal.

He is regarded as one of the greatest talents of the 2006 generation.

At 20, Duranville arrives in Lyon with expectations of regular first‑team action.
