Germany close to appointing Jürgen Klopp
A deal has been reached for Jürgen Klopp to become the next coach of Germany's national team. After conquering England with Liverpool and making history with Borussia Dortmund, Klopp is set to take the reins of the Mannschaft.
The German Football Federation (DFB) announced on Saturday that it had found an agreement on the essential points of a potential contract with Klopp. The DFB president, Bernd Neuendorf, and vice-president, Hans-Joachim Watzke, met with Klopp in New York on Friday for an in-depth discussion about his potential arrival.
The negotiations are expected to continue in the coming days, with both parties expressing optimism about finalizing the agreement. However, one last obstacle needs to be overcome: obtaining the approval of Red Bull, Klopp's current employer.
German federation eyes Nagelsmann successor as Klopp nears deal
Since January 2025, Klopp has been the director of football for the Austrian group, which owns several clubs around the world. The DFB has been searching for a new sports director since Julian Nagelsmann's departure, following Germany's premature elimination from the World Cup against Paraguay. To revive a team still seeking a new breath, Germany dreams of a big name capable of embodying renewal: Jürgen Klopp. At 59, the German technician already has a rich career in success, having revealed himself on the bench of Mayence before writing the most beautiful pages of his history at Borussia Dortmund. But it's especially in England, at the helm of Liverpool, that Jürgen Klopp reached the summit. Under his orders, the Reds won the Champions League, the Premier League, the Club World Cup, and an FA Cup. The prospect of seeing Klopp take the reins of the Mannschaft is already exciting on the other side of the Rhine. After more than a decade of struggles and early eliminations from major international competitions, the German selection wants to regain its rank and hopes to find with Klopp a strong identity and renewed ambitions.
