From Monaco to PSG: Akliouche’s move hinges on one club’s €40m gamble
Monaco midfielder Maghnes Akliouche has agreed personal terms with Paris Saint-Germain, ending months of speculation over his future. The 24-year-old will leave his boyhood club this summer after Monaco finally relented on a transfer. Akliouche was linked with a move last summer, but Monaco’s valuation proved too high. Now, the Principality club has dropped its resistance, paving the way for a deal.
PSG are leading the pursuit, with Fabrizio Romano reporting the Ligue 1 champions have overtaken Atletico Madrid in the race. The Spanish side agreed a €40 million deal (including bonuses) for Lee Kang-in, which has accelerated PSG’s interest in Akliouche. The South Korea international’s transfer has now cleared the way for PSG to focus on the French midfielder.
Akliouche, a Monaco academy graduate, is seen as the long-term replacement for Lee Kang-in at PSG. The South Korean’s impending exit has created a clear pathway for the 24-year-old to step into a more prominent role. PSG have already opened talks with Monaco over Akliouche’s transfer, with an agreement in principle reached between the player and the club.
The midfielder is currently representing France at the FIFA World Cup, where his performances have kept him in the conversation for international recognition. His club future, however, now appears settled, with PSG emerging as the clear destination. Talks between the two clubs are ongoing, with a deal expected to be finalised in the coming weeks.
