Fenerbahçe's pursuit of Greenwood meets Marseille's price wall

By 4All Football Editorial ·

Turkish giants Fenerbahçe are targeting England forward Mason Greenwood this summer, but Olympique Marseille have already turned down an initial offer exceeding €30 million. The Turkish side hope to secure the 24‑year‑old striker despite the French club's firm stance, and negotiations are already underway.

Fenerbahçe director Feridun Geçgel travelled to France to discuss the transfer directly with Marseille officials, signalling the club's serious intent. His presence on the ground underscores the importance the Turkish side places on acquiring Greenwood.

Greenwood, 24, is viewed by Fenerbahçe as the ideal reinforcement for their attacking line. The club believes his profile matches the needs of their front‑line.

Despite the ongoing talks, no agreement has been reached between the clubs. Sources expect Fenerbahçe will submit a bid below €50 million, although the exact figure remains undisclosed.

Earlier this week the Turkish side placed €30 million on the table, supplemented by performance bonuses, but Marseille deemed the package insufficient. The rejection highlights Marseille's valuation of the player.

Greenwood remains under contract with Olympique Marseille until the summer of 2029, giving the French club a long‑term hold on his rights. Such a lengthy contract strengthens Marseille's negotiating position.

Transfermarkt currently estimates Greenwood's market value at €55 million, a figure that exceeds the latest offer from Fenerbahçe. The valuation reflects his recent performances in Ligue 1.

In the 2023‑24 season he featured in 45 official matches, netting 26 goals and providing 11 assists. These statistics underline his productivity as a forward.

The contrast between Marseille's firm price expectations and Fenerbahçe's incremental offers suggests that negotiations will likely continue, with a revised bid expected before the summer window closes. Both clubs appear prepared to keep talks open, leaving Greenwood's future uncertain.
