Birmingham City’s defensive upgrade with French defender Jade Rastocle

🇬🇧 By 4All Football Editorial ·

Birmingham City have signed 22‑year‑old French defender Jade Rastocle from Montpellier HSC on an undisclosed fee, completing the Blues’ third summer acquisition as they shore up a defensive gap ahead of the new campaign. The move follows a busy transfer window and aims to boost squad depth and stability.

The Blues view the addition as a key step toward achieving their seasonal ambitions, targeting improved defensive stability. Strengthening the back line was a priority after the club evaluated the squad during the summer transfer window.

Birmingham City confirmed the transfer with an official press release, and WSL Full-Time were informed of the news via that announcement. The club chose not to disclose any financial details, emphasizing the player’s impact over cost.

Rastocle arrives from French side Montpellier HSC, where she spent the last two seasons and made 42 appearances across all competitions. Her contributions helped Montpellier avoid relegation to the Seconde Ligue last season, providing her with valuable experience in high‑pressure situations.

Before joining Montpellier, she began her career in Sarcelles and then signed for Stade de Reims, spending three seasons with the Red and Whites. The stint at Reims laid the foundation for her development in Ligue 1 and paved the way for her later move to Montpellier.

Internationally, Rastocle has represented France at various youth levels, reaching the Under‑23 side, underscoring her potential for senior honours.

After completing the move, Rastocle said, “I’m very happy to be here. I can see the ambitions of the club, the city and I know it’s a historic club. For me, it’s an unbelievable and very big opportunity to play here.”

Rastocle is Birmingham City’s third signing of the summer transfer window, following Millie Turner and Lisa Naalsund. The trio bolsters the squad as the Blues prepare for the upcoming campaign.

For Birmingham City, the French defender adds depth, experience and a proven ability to cope with pressure, supporting the Blues’ quest for a strong season. For Rastocle, the move offers an “unbelievable and very big opportunity” to play for a historic club and further her career in the WSL.
