Barcelona’s goalkeeping overhaul drives Kochen’s Danish loan

🇪🇸
FC Barcelona have secured a loan move for 20‑year‑old American goalkeeper Diego Kochen to Danish Superliga side Lyngby for the 2026‑27 season, giving the La Masia product the chance of regular first‑team football after serving as the club’s third‑choice keeper last campaign. The deal had already been agreed between Barcelona, Lyngby and Kochen, with only the final signatures pending before the transfer could be completed. Both clubs confirmed the arrangement in a statement to Mundo Deportivo. Lyngby will hold an option to purchase Kochen permanently next summer for €1.5 million. If exercised, Barcelona will retain 40 % of any future transfer fee, securing a share of his long‑term value. Kochen remains under contract with Barcelona until 2028, tying his future to the Catalan giants for another two seasons. His American nationality and youth international call‑ups have attracted attention, but club opportunities remained limited. The arrival of fellow goalkeeper Joan Garcia further reduced Kochen’s prospects of breaking into the first team, leaving him as the third‑choice option behind Wojciech Szczesny, who will serve as backup to Garcia. A loan therefore became the most logical solution for his development. At Lyngby, Kochen is expected to compete for the starting goalkeeper role in the Danish Superliga, a league increasingly watched by clubs across Europe, especially in Germany, for emerging talent. Regular senior minutes in Denmark should accelerate his progression. Kochen joins Inaki Pena and Ander Astralaga as the third goalkeeper to depart Barcelona this summer, part of a broader clean‑up of the goalkeeping department overseen by sporting director Deco. Marc‑Andre ter Stegen is close to a loan exit to Ajax, and Aron Yaakobishvili may also leave, highlighting Barcelona’s strategic reshuffle. Lyngby’s decision on the €1.5 million purchase option will be taken next summer, while Barcelona will monitor Kochen’s performances to assess his future role. Should he secure a starting berth, the Catalan club will retain a significant sell‑on interest.
