Ajax's silent plan: Daley Blind's summer return held back
Daley Blind, the 36‑year‑old Dutch midfielder, is set to re‑join Ajax this summer, who say the club is deliberately delaying the announcement to complete other signings.
Johan Derksen said, “I heard that he is going to Ajax. He speaks Spanish, so that is good,” adding a light‑hearted comment about Blind’s language skills.
Wilfred Genee explained that Ajax wants to complete other acquisitions first, noting that the club will announce Blind’s move later because he would not be recorded as the first signing.
Derksen also argued that a player of Blind’s calibre could still manage a year in the Eredivisie, suggesting his experience remains valuable at the top Dutch level.

Theo Janssen expressed uncertainty about the return, pointing out that Blind is 36, almost 37, and that his previous spell at Ajax was not particularly enjoyable for either party. René van der Gijp warned that Blind would likely endure a year of columns criticizing his pace, questioning what benefit such scrutiny would bring. Danny Blind, speaking on Monday evening at Het Oranje Café, remarked that a third spell at Ajax “doesn’t seem likely,” hinting at family reservations. With the announcement still pending, Ajax is expected to reveal Blind’s signing later in the summer once the other deals are finalised.
