Tottenham Remain in Relegation Fight After 2-1 Loss to Chelsea
Tottenham Hotspur suffered a 2-1 defeat to Chelsea on Tuesday, leaving the club still in danger of relegation with one league match remaining.
The loss means Tottenham must secure at least a point in their upcoming Sunday home game against Everton to guarantee survival in the Premier League.
Relegation would not only be a sporting humiliation but could cost the club hundreds of millions of euros, threatening its financial stability.
For Chelsea, the victory lifts them to eighth place, securing a spot in the Conference League play‑offs, while a Europa League place remains within reach. Their Champions League hopes have already faded after gaining only one point from the previous seven fixtures.
In the match, Tottenham captain Micky van de Ven saw his side fall behind after Enzo Fernández scored a close‑range finish in the first half. Earlier, Tottenham forward Mathys Tel had struck the post, and the visitors created few clear chances.
Fernández later hit the bar before delivering a pass to Andrey Santos for Chelsea’s second goal. Richarlison pulled one back for Tottenham with a strike fifteen minutes from time, sparking a tense finish.
James Maddison generated the best chance for an equaliser, but Jorrel Hato made a decisive intervention to deny a late 2‑2 draw. Under new manager Roberto De Zerbi, Tottenham had shown recent improvement, yet the season now hinges on the final match.
