Salford City reach League Two playoff final at Wembley

Salford City secured a 4-1 victory over Stockport County in the League Two playoff semi-final at the County Ground on 11 May. The win secures Salford’s place in the Wembley final against Notts County on 18 May.

Stockport County took the lead through a 29th-minute penalty by Liam McAlinden. Salford responded with two goals in the second half: a 55th-minute header from Ibou Touray and a 68th-minute strike from Jason Lowe.

Rory Gorniak added a third for Salford in the 75th-minute before Ibou Touray completed his brace in the 82nd-minute. Salford City have reached the League Two playoff final for the first time in their history.

Notts County defeated Bolton Wanderers 4-1 in their semi-final at the University of Bolton Stadium on 11 May. County now await Salford in the final.

Fabio Borini, Salford City manager, spoke to the media following the semi-final win. He highlighted the team’s resilience and preparation for the Wembley showdown.

The League Two playoff final will kick off at 15:00 BST on Saturday, 18 May, at Wembley Stadium.
