Newcastle’s midfield overhaul continues with Manzambi after Steur deal

🇬🇧
Newcastle United are pressing ahead with their midfield rebuild, using proceeds from the Sandro Tonali sale to fund multiple new arrivals. The Magpies have already agreed a €24m deal with Ajax for Sean Steur, with bonus payments taking the total to €27m. Now, Newcastle are targeting Johan Manzambi from SC Freiburg as their next signing. Tonali’s exit to Tottenham Hotspur was confirmed this week, with the transfer involving at least €108m. Newcastle are allocating part of those funds to strengthen their midfield options. Steur’s move from Ajax is expected to be finalised shortly, while Manzambi remains a priority target. Negotiations with SC Freiburg have already begun, but the German club are seeking at least €60m for the Swiss international. Whether Newcastle will meet that valuation remains uncertain. Manzambi has been one of the standout performers at the World Cup, contributing two goals and two assists in Switzerland’s group stage. His involvement in the knockout stages has been limited by injury, with the midfielder missing the Round of 16 clash against Colombia. Despite that setback, his performances have drawn significant interest, including from Newcastle. The Magpies are now weighing up whether to meet Freiburg’s asking price or pursue alternative targets to complete their midfield reshuffle. A decision on Manzambi’s future is expected in the coming weeks as Newcastle finalise their transfer plans.
